The X Factor's technical blunder had a disastrous impact on ratings

The fallout from The X Factor‘s technical blunder could prove costly, as it’s now been revealed it had a disastrous impact on ratings.

Saturday’s show (November 3) saw technical issues play havoc with the sound quality of the broadcast, meaning some performances were affected and many viewers were left comparing the sound to classic Doctor Who villains, the Daleks.

As a result, Saturday night’s public vote was cancelled and every performance was repeated at the beginning of Sunday night’s results show, after which voting opened.

The gaffe was addressed by presenter Dermot O’Leary at the start of Sunday night’s episode, when he said: “A few gremlins interrupted our broadcast.”

However, it seems that that the technical blunder also coincided with a plunge in ratings, as approximately 3.7 million viewers tuned in to watch Saturday night’s episode – making it the lowest ratings of the series thus far.

Last night’s instalment fared slightly better, with approximately 4.2m viewers.

Technical blunders weren’t the only contentious issue faced by The X Factor this weekend.

After the double elimination of United Vibe and Molly Scott following a sing-off with Acacia & Aaliyah, Simon was adamant that the public – or possibly the vote tally – had got it wrong.

“I can’t believe either of you are in the bottom two,” he said, before adding: “I demand a recount.”

Guess they don’t call it Fright Night for nothing.

The X Factor continues next Saturday (November 10) on ITV.
