The final moments, however, ended on a slightly more uplifting note, as Martin Benson (Charles Dance) surprised Georgia by bringing former child soldier Adidja (Shalom Nyandiko) back to the UK to live with her.
Through it all though, some viewers were wondering what the point was.
There were some defenders though.
