The 'Timeless' Finale Movie Will Feature Two Different Time Periods

Buckle up because this is going to be a wild ride, y’all.

Clearly, NBC has changed its mind about Timeless over and over again. After canceling the cult hit for a second time, the network announced a two-part finale to give “closure to the globetrotting series.” Although an official air date has not been confirmed, the wrap-up movie is expected to premiere during the holidays.

In a new interview with Collider, executive producer Eric Kripke revealed some interesting details about the upcoming Timeless movie. For starters, the two-hour farewell film will begin shooting in October. The project was originally supposed to take place within a single time period, but the writers ultimately changed their minds.

“It’s basically the equivalent of two episodes,” explained Kripke. “They’re connected and though it’s one long mythology story that plays over both, they really are, in effect, two time periods of Timeless that they visit… It will be exactly like two more episodes of the show.”

It’s difficult to say how fans will receive closure, given Timeless has been canceled and revived way more times than any TV series ever should. “We tried to put a period at the end of the sentence, but not so much that the door isn’t open for further adventures, down the road,” added Kripke in the same interview with Collider.

The Season 2 finale of Timeless, which aired on May 13, ended on quite the cliffhanger: Future versions of both Lucy and Wyatt were transported to the present-day bunker with a potential plan that could save their dead teammate, Rufus. Suffice  to say, we need an end to this doozy of a chapter!

The entire cast, including Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Visnjic, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey, and Claudia Doumit are on board. The high stakes, two-hour extravaganza will focus on the unsung heroes of history. You can also expect to see one final gut-wrenching story for Time Team.
