AN expert on The Repair Shop had to fight back tears as they learnt the truth being a guest's wedding ring.

The BBC programme sees a workshop full of craftspeople attempt to fix or restore guest's most treasured items.



During the latest episode viewers were introduced to Eve Robinson.

She brought her engagement ring to the workshop which was designed by her late husband Keith.

Speaking to the experts, she said: "I met Keith in 1987.

"He was a widower of 56 and I was a divorcee of 48.

"We met through one of the original dating agencies, I suppose.

"We had lots of lovely outings – theatres, concerts. He turned out to be just absolutely right."

She then revealed to Jay Blades and Richard Biggs her husband's ring which had been damaged.

After the two men asked why it had been damaged, Eve explained: "He was diagnosed in 2011 with cerebral atrophy.

"So it progressed from atrophy into Alzheimer's, and I had him at home with me for six years."

Continuing, she said: "What he'd done, he'd taken the ring off his ring finger and put it on his index finger.

"And it had swollen, they panicked and sent him to the hospital in an ambulance.

"By the time he got there, his finger was so engorged that they said the only way it could be removed was like that."

As Eve teared up recalling the life and memories of her husband Keith, so did the men.

Holding back tears, Richard said: "I really, really hope that we are able to preserve the memory that you have of such a wonderful man, Eve."

Eve was left delighted when the men later presented her with Keith's ring which they had been able to restore.

Viewers at home were touched by Eve as one wrote: "Never watched an episode of The Reapir Shop before…five minutes into my first and I’m on the verge of tears – that poor woman talking about her late husband."
