Ree and Ladd have been married since 1996 and have four
children together.

Sometimes Ree and Ladd clash

Ree admits she and Ladd don’t always get along perfectly. They have disagreements and argue just like any other couple. She told People their differences became evident during the building of The Pioneer Woman Boarding House, their eight-room hotel. They have wildly different design styles, so they chose to split the establishment up and design each half differently. “I’m not going to paint a rosy picture of husband and wife working perfectly together,” said Ree. “There were definite disagreements, and that is part of why we ended up splitting the building into two halves.”

I love him. I will never ski with him, but I love him.

The early years were tough for Ree and Ladd. They experienced
financial strain and were learning how to adjust to marriage. Ladd’s business
suffered during the Mad Cow disease scare and the value of his land declined in
the ’90s, reports People. He told the
publication things were so tight they had to skip taking vacations for a few
years. “The first 10 years of our marriage weren’t the easiest things in the
world. We had financial struggles; we had everything that every couple goes
through in the early years. The first six years that Ree and I were married we
didn’t take a single vacation, and she never complained once,” he said.

Ree Drummond says this helps her marriage

Ree and Ladd have a nightly ritual they practice. If they ever
have a disagreement, this is what helps get things back on track. The Pioneer
Woman told People she and Ladd make
sure their feet touch when they’re lying in bed. It’s a way for them to reconnect,
let each other know things are OK, and that they still support each other:

We don’t go to sleep in each other’s arms—we like our space—but our feet always touch. I know that if our feet touch before we go to sleep at night, we’re not going to bed upset or angry. If we’ve had a little disagreement, as long as our feet touch, it’s all good.

In most of the photos I have of Ladd, he's either: covered in sweat, getting out of a tractor, driving a pickup, riding a horse, holding a baby, or holding me.❤️ Happy birthday, honey! I love you so much.

Ree is on the go a lot, and that could put a big strain on
any marriage. However, Ree says Ladd understands what she has to do to keep growing
as a businesswoman:

I sometimes don’t know how I got this cowboy who somehow grasps all of this very modern-day stuff that I’m doing. I started with blogging, then wrote cookbooks and went on book tours, filmed a cooking show, and now with our building projects in town he has just always understood what we’re trying to do. He really is my number one confidant.
