Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line Kimono was considered offensive
As some would have already heard, there is a controversy around Kardashian as we speak. This week in The New York Times, Kardashian’s new shapewear line was revealed. She named her bodysuit collection Kimono. The country of Japan was not happy with this choice of a trademark.
The mayor of Kyoto wrote to Kardashian and asked her to change the name. The mayor and other Japanese individuals said “kimono” is a word and a fashion from the 16th century, and does not have associations with lingerie.
A petition showed up on change.org. A hashtag also appeared – #KimOhNo. Eleven thousand people who signed the petition saw this labeling as a “horrible cultural disrespect.” Many think this is an example of “cultural appropriation.”
The first photo of fourth child Psalm
Kardashian and Kanye West did not reveal much about their new baby, except to say the new young one looked exactly like his sister, Chicago. But things got controversial when the couple shared their first picture of their new baby boy.
Some folks were quick to comment that Psalm, who was sleeping in his crib with bedding and crib bumper surrounding him, was not safe. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that for safety’s sake, the baby should rest on his or her back; on a firm surface (e.g., a bassinet or crib with a tight-fitting sheet). Pediatricians say soft bedding and crib bumpers, blankets, soft toys, and pillows can cause sleep-related deaths and, even, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
West and Kardashian removed the image and noted that she is aware of the precautions. The photograph, she said, was a “staged photo.”
Kim Kardashian was accused of cultural appropriation… again
When Kardashian released the promotional images for her makeup line, KKW, there were those who accused her of going “blackface.” Kardashian explained that she respected those who felt that she was appropriating blackness but added that she would never want to offend anyone.

Where were Kardashian’s advisers when she was deciding whether it would be a good idea to pose as the Virgin Mary? They were not on-hand. Kardashian was selling a glass-enclosed church candle with her face over Mary’s face. For designing and manufacturing this candle, Kardashian was called-out by her followers with words like:
- Disrespectful
- A religion appropriator
- Ridiculous
Others thought people were over-reacting and taking this product choice too seriously. Several controversial products were offered online by Kardashian to “pump fans up” for the release of her new merchandise.”
Kim Kardashian’s comments after a concert attack
Kardashian shared a photo of herself, Ariana Grande, and Kendall Jenner at a show. Her caption was:
I’m praying for everyone in Manchester. This is truly so senseless & heartbreaking. I can’t imagine the fear and agony these parents must be going through searching for their kids. Concerts are supposed to be a place where you can let loose and have fun.
The picture posted after 22 people died at Grande’s Manchester Arena concert last May. Kardashian was called narcissistic and accused of making the tragedy about her instead of the victims.

Kardashian has faced photoshopping criticism for years. After North West was born in June of 2014, Kardashian took pictures of her abs and derriere in January and posted them. Some viewers thought she might have used Photoshop to make herself look thinner. Followers point out that the door to the left of Kardashian looks warped, which can sometimes happen when digitally altering photos.
