The Masked Singer UK will kick-off its second series next month, where it will be filmed in front of a live studio audience.
The reality competition proved to be a sleeper hit when it debuted at the start of this year, featuring a line-up of British celebs wearing eccentric masks and covering popular songs, with an esteemed panel of judges (including Davina McCall and Rita Ora) trying to guess their real identity.
After the success of the series’ debut season, a second was quickly commissioned by ITV, but doubts were raised over whether it could be filmed in front of a live studio audience again thanks to coronavirus.
Now, according to Deadline, production company Bandicoot TV will return to its home in a North London studio in September, where the new series will be filmed over the course of eight nights.
The publication also states that a ticketing company handling access to the show states that all audience members but adhere to strict social distancing rules, anyone seen to be breaking the rules will be removed.
Deadline reports that temperature checks will be taken at the venue, as well as audience members having to leave their contact numbers for track and trace purposes.
Hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, judges on the panel are Davina McCall, Rita Ora, Jonathan Ross and Ken Jeong.
Judge McCall did reveal in the past that the singing show would be returning to filming in September – although at that point, it was unknown whether it would be in front of an audience or not.
The inaugural series of the show was won by former Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts – who was (quite literally) unmasked as the victorious Queen Bee.
Other famous faces that popped up in series one included comedian Jason Manford, Milkshake singer Kelis and, most bizarrely of all, former MP Alan Johnson.
This contributed to what is, in our eyes at least, one of the greatest few minutes of TV ever broadcast in Britain as poor Rita tried very, very hard to pretend like she knew who the ex-Secretary of State was.
