The Last Kingdom season five has been given the green light for Netflix and the series stars Alexander Dreymon as Uhtred of Bebbanburg. The show is based on The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell and it follows the unification of all the kingdoms of England. Fans have been discussing where Uhtred will have ended up by the fifth season.

Where will Uhtred be in season 5?

The Last Kingdom is in its fourth season and fans have just seen Uhtred leave Winchester following the great siege.

He had helped King Edward (Timothy Innes) take back the kingdom from the Viking Sigtryggr (Eysteinn Sigurðarson).

He was forced to say goodbye to his daughter Stiorra (Ruby Hartley) in the process, as Sigtryggr wanted to take her with him.

Uhtred was last seen with Edward’s son Aethelstan (Caspar Griffiths), who is next in line to the throne.

The fifth season is likely to see Uhtred training Aethelstan as a strong leader and fearless fighter.

Uhtred attempted to claim back his homeland of Bebbanburg at the start of season four, but it ended in disaster.

He and his men ended up losing Father Beocca (Ian Hart), who sacrificed himself to save Uhtred’s son.

Fans believe Uhtred will return to Bebbanburg in a last-ditch attempt to win back his birthright in season five.

Viewers have taken to Reddit to discuss what will happen to Uhtred in the upcoming season.

Moon-worshiper said: “In the books, season five will have advanced by three years. This is the time of the truce, between Mercia and Wessex with the Danes and the increasing number of Nordics, being driven out of Ireland.

“They don’t have a truce with the Welsh, so there are different back and forth goings-on in Wales.

“Aethelflaed and King Edward have turned to East Anglia, to try to get a truce with the Danes on the east coast.

“Northumbria ends up being a back and forth battle, with the Norse waging sporadic attacks up to 1066 AD.

“Season five should start with Uhtred settled into a manor, with some kind of title, taking care of Aethelstan and Osbert, now teenagers.

“In the books, he is married to Eadith. The Royals aren’t totally dependent on him anymore, so he pulls out the Bebbanburg attack plans (hint: he doesn’t have any plan, just get ‘er done).”

Uhtred is expected to spend most of his time raising Aethelstan, following the events from season four.

He had been in the care of his grandmother Aelswith (Eliza Butterworth), but she was poisoned while being held hostage in Winchester.

Aelswith left Aethelstan in Uhtred’s hands, trusting him to make a powerful leader out of the young boy.

There is also a high chance Uhtred will return to Bebbanburg to find against his evil cousin Wihtgar (Osian Perret).

Not only will he want to avenge Beocca, but he will also want to discover whether Bebbanburg really is his destiny.

Uhtred may also come across a new love interest in season five after he parted ways from Aethelflaed (Millie Brady).

The Lady of Mercia gave up her relationship with Uhtred so she could earn the respect of the Mercian people.

Eadith (Stefanie Martini) was introduced in season four and in the books, Uhtred ends up with her.

However, fans are hoping she starts a relationship with Uhtred’s friend Finan (Mark Rowley) as they had a special connection.

Season five takes inspiration from the books Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer.
