I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! has been airing on ITV and viewers were shocked to hear fan-favourite Olivia Attwood was forced to leave after 24 hours. She had no choice but to pull out on health grounds and she will be sorely missed by the rest of the group. There have been stand-in stars who get paid huge amounts to be on-call and ready to enter the jungle.

Love Island star Olivia Attwood quickly became a favourite of the 2022 series with her witty remarks and high energy.

Sadly she had to say goodbye to her campmates due to health grounds, but will still get her full fee, which is believed to be around £100,000.

When a celebrity leaves unexpectedly, there is a line-up of other famous faces waiting to find out if they will be brought in.

Even if they don’t end up entering, the standby contestants get a whopping fee of £20,000 along with a first-class flight to Australia.

If one campmate becomes ill or is injured before voting lines open, the standby contestants are behind the scenes ready to take their place.

Former contestant Nicola McLean claimed Timmy Mallett was a standby contestant before his actual appearance in 2008.

It was reported Timmy had flown out to Australia to replace John Lydon if he walked out back in 2004.

Explaining how the standby set-up works, Nicola said: “Aside from the two latecomers, other celebrities are on standby in case anyone gets injured or ill – but get sent home once the voting starts, as then it doesn’t matter if someone leaves.

“They travel first class, stay in a hotel and get paid £20,000. Timmy Mallett did that for three years before he got in, but that’s rare because most don’t go in the show,” she told The Mirror.

TV legend Keith Chegwin was once a backup celebrity for the very first series of I’m A Celeb.

He died in 2017 at the age of 60, having never made it to camp.

Ant and Dec bumped into the Cheggers Plays Pop star as he walked around the hotel with a video camera.

“He never got on, he just hung around the hotel with his camcorder filming the cast, poor Keith Chegwin,” said Ant on the recap show I’m A Celebrity…Jungle Story.

The latest episode revealed former Health Secretary Matt Hancock and comedian Seann Walsh were the late entries to camp.

Seann admitted he nearly turned down an offer to take part because he was scared about what people would think of him.

This comes after the Strictly Come Dancing kissing scandal with professional dancer Katya Jones in 2018.

He said his partner Grace encouraged him to enter so viewers could see what he was really like.

“As you can imagine I was very scared after the last time I was on a big show because the fallout was not something you would want to go back to. Grace talked me into doing it,” he said.

MP Matt Hancock said he was hoping to dispel misconceptions about what politicians are really like.

He shared: “I am looking forward to throwing myself into it all like I do everything in life. You can’t hide anything in the jungle, you see somebody warts and all.”

Olivia Attwood joins a long list of celebs who have pulled out of the series, including Richard Madeley who was forced to quit after being rushed to hospital for treatment.

TOWIE star Gemma Collins was also known to have walked out after just three days.
