The Flash season 5 casts America's Got Talent contortionist as major DC villain

Former America’s Got Talent contestant Troy James will definitely put his incredible skill as a contortionist to good use with a role in the fifth season of The Flash.

The performer who made it through to the Judges’ Cuts round in AGT has landed the role of Peter Merkel (aka Rag Doll), who first vexed The Flash in the pages of DC Comics all the way back in 1942.

Rag Doll is the son of a sideshow barker who used his metahuman gifts for contortion in a life of crime when the carnival he worked for shut down. Over the years, he’s been affiliated with both the Injustice Society and Lex Luthor’s Secret Society of Super Villains.

James is set to make his debut in the role in season five’s fifth episode. This won’t be his first acting part, having played demons in Shadowhunters and various vampires in The Strain.

He joins a growing villain line-up for this year that also includes KIana Madeira as the gender-swapped Spin, and American Pie‘s Chris Klein as the metahuman-hating Cicada. The new season is also introducing Veronica Mars and The Purge: Election Year star Kyle Secor as Caitlin Snow’s absentee father.

When he’s not battling these baddies, The Flash will also join forces with Green Arrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, Superman and Lois Lane for a three-night Arrowverse crossover event this December.

The Flash returns on Tuesday, October 9 at 8pm ET on The CW in the US, and on Sky One and Now TV in the UK.
