The Flash had to plot season 4 "way in advance" to set up Thinker's complex plot

The Flash‘s producers have revealed that they had to plot The Thinker’s complex season 4 storyline “way in advance”.

The baddie – aka Clifford DeVoe – acted as the last season’s main antagonist, engaging in a complex plot against Barry Allen.

Speaking in an exclusive clip to Digital Spy below, executive producer Todd Helbing explained: “We really had to plot out the moves that he was going to do way in advance. Stuff that we set up in the first episode was going to pay off in the finale.”

Meanwhile, looking ahead, we were recently given a new glimpse at season 5 of The Flash with a new teaser trailer.

On top of the new episodes, the Arrowverse is set to get another crossover this year, which is set to feature the return of Tyler Hoechlin as Superman, Lois Lane’s debut and the introduction of Gotham City and Ruby Rose as Batwoman.

The Flash’s own Grant Gustin is pretty excited about it all, saying: “To see Flash and Superman together and to be one of the guys in the suits is something I’m definitely pretty excited about.”

He also said the TV Arrowverse was just as valid as the movies, adding: “It did feel like something they would always save for the features, to be honest.

“But I feel like the Arrowverse has kind of been changing that stigma with the whole ‘TV is the lesser medium’. I think it kind of doesn’t matter these days with the streaming and content’s kind of everywhere.

“So, it is cool to see us kind of rise to even another level and bring all of us together for these crossovers. It’s pretty epic.”

The Flash returns to The CW in the US on Tuesday, October 9 at 8pm ET. Sky One airs the show in the UK.
