‘The Crown’ Reveals First Official Photo of the New Prince Philip

Stream Season 2

Netflix has unveiled the first photo of The Crown’s new Prince Philip, who will be played by Outlander and Game of Thrones alum Tobias Menzies. The photo, released on the official Twitter for The Crown, was accompanied by a simple caption, “Ambition,” which could mean anything from Philip’s ongoing desire to still live his life outside the palace walls to owning a dog that’s not a corgi. (Joking about the latter, of course. Corgis are the best.)

Here’s your new Philip all decked out in royal regalia staring off into the distance. If only one of the royal aides would fix that slightly crooked bow tie…

Menzies, who took over royal duties from Matt Smith in March, began production with the rest of The Crown family earlier this summer. As previously announced, seasons three and four will be filmed back-to-back. Season three, which will cover the royal family from 1964 to 1976, is slated to premiere in 2019.

In July, Netflix released the first photos of the new Princess Margaret, played by Helena Bonham Carter, and her Tony, played by Ben Daniels.

Of course, the excitement surrounding season three really started when Netflix released the first photo of Queen Elizabeth, played by Olivia Colman, complete with a pale pink suit, pearls, a brooch, tea, and marmalade.
