The Chase viewers mock contestant for fluffing 'easy' question about foxes

Fans were left shocked by the school administrator's incorrect answer when Bradley Walsh asked: "Foxes are members of the same family as which domestic pets?"

Unsure Fiona guessed cats – when the right answer is actually dogs.

Fans of the popular quiz show took to Twitter to share their bemusement at Fiona's blunder, with one writing: "'A Fox is related to which domestic animal?'

"'Cat'

"#TheChase where do they find these people?"

Another tweeted: "Not knowing a fox is a dog?? #TheChase".

However, one social media user defended the contestant – admitting that she also thought that foxes were a part of the cat family.

She quipped: "Why did I think Foxes were like cats as well? Because I’m stupid #thechase."

Despite getting the question wrong, Fiona insisted that she did know the correct answer and had meant to answer "dogs", telling host Bradley Walsh: "My head was saying dogs, cats came out – seriously!"

Bradley, who was clearly tickled by the incident, put his head in his hands as he joked: "You may as well have said hamster!" before he warned Fiona that the children at her school will be poking fun at the mistake.

Fiona also faced criticism from viewers for passing on many of the other questions in her round, with one fan making the jab: "#TheChase passes everything except the Peppa Pig question …. got a clever one here.. [sic]"

Fiona isn't the first The Chase contestant to face ridicule from viewers for getting an "easy" question incorrect.

Last month, young school teacher Jenny left fans in stitches when she suggested that house music supergroup Swedish House Mafia was the "Swedish band that featured prominently in Muriel's Wedding".

Unaware that the correct answer is, of course, Abba.

Swedish House Mafia were not formed until 2008 – a staggering 14 years after the Australian comedy was released.

Jenny was mocked mercilessly by fans on Twitter, with one writing: "Swedish house mafia has to be my favourite answer of the show #TheChase".
