The Chase: Tipping Point host Ben Shephard points out FAULT in Bradley Walsh quiz

The Chase sees some brave contestants go up against the Chasers to bag a massive jackpot.

Fronted by Bradley Walsh, the ITV quiz certainly has gained a lot of fans throughout the country, even winning awards for the unique format.

However, Tipping Point host, Ben Shephard, thinks there’s one fatal flaw with it: it’s incredibly difficult to win money.

On The Chase, it’s all or nothing, but on his show, the contestant takes home at least what they’ve earned.

Speaking to press including Express.co.uk, Ben opened up on what makes Tipping Point so loved, considering he had just filmed the 1000th episode of the hit quiz.

He said: “It’s captured everybody’s imaginations, certainly. But I think there is a number of reasons.

“I think that it’s really accessible. I think there’s a lot of quiz shows that really, really test people’s intelligence, which is great, and certainly ours does.

“But I think the level of questions is really accessible; there’s really tough questions in there as well if you get far enough. You really get tested.

“Also the machine is a real leveller. So sometimes people are nervous about going on quiz shows because they think, ‘Oh I don’t have the general knowledge to do that’ but you can have brilliant general knowledge but the machine might not take a liking to you and that might make it really difficult.

“The element of luck, balanced with the need to answer questions and buzz in and give general knowledge, sort of makes it a level playing field.”

The Good Morning Britain presenter continued: “Well, the feedback I get, is that someone tends to win something, regardless.

“On some of the other shows, you don’t win that much money even if you win, or you don’t go away with anything if you don’t beat the Chaser. And I love The Chase.

“There can be a lot of money on the line, as we’ve seen with a couple of really fantastic wins, but it is tough and it is tough for a reason, so we’re retaining that goal.”

Tipping Point launched in 2012 and its unique style as well as friendly Ben has ensured its longevity.

However, there’s some parts of the show even the presenter isn’t allowed to do.

At the end of the quiz, if the contestant doesn’t get the Golden Jackpot Counter out of the machine, they are offered the chance to play three counters for one final chance. They can either gamble their loot and play for a real £10,000, or just play for fun and take home their initial winnings.

Ben used to be allowed to put the counters in the machine and play out the scenario, should the contestant decide to take the money home.

Sadly, that’s stopped now and the players have to be the one to drop the counters. Ben admitted: “I’ve had a couple of go’s along the way.

“In the first few series, they used to let me play out the trade if they said no.

“I’m not allowed to do that anymore – I don’t know why. I think they felt it was crueller to make the person who turned it down watch and play it themselves!”

Tipping Point airs weekdays on ITV at 4pm. The 1000th episode will air next April.
