The Chase: ‘Pull yourself together’ Bradley scolds Anne Hegerty after ‘fibbing’ confession

Bradley Walsh, 59, tried his best to help today’s The Chase contestants get their hands on a cash prize, but he and the four quizzing hopefuls had to get past The Governess star Anne Hegerty, 61, first.

Throughout the show, Anne and ITV quiz show host Bradley made quips about one another as the team did their best to make it back for the Final Chase.

First up to take on The Governess today was charity worker Sue, who wanted to take on The Sinnerman star Paul Sinha, 49, as she told Bradley: “I think he’s the weakest of all The Chasers.”

Coming face-to-face with Anne, Sue managed to beat off the competition by making back to the players table with £5,000 with contestant Kim hoping to follow in her footsteps.

Are you fibbing?

After accumulating £4,000 in her cash builder round, Kim stuck with her original amount and faced a number of general knowledge questions when pitted against Anne.

One such question was What was the first published novel by Thomas Hardy? with the possible answers being Desperate Days, Desperate Remedies or Desperate Housewives.

Anne locked down he correct answer of Desperate Remedies as Kim went for option A, with The Governess going on to explain why the contestant was wrong.

“Desperate Days is the autobiography of Desperate Dan,” Anne told Bradley, to which the host asked: “Seriously?”

Realising she’d made a mistake, Anne reluctantly replied: “No,” whilst shaking her head as Bradley asked: “Are you fibbing?”

“Yes,” Anne remarked, to which the host asked: “Why’d you do that?”

Joking he was the one who was supposed to get the answers wrong, Bradley went on to explain to Anne: “Listen, I’m the one who does that.

“You have to tell us the proper things because the kids look up to you.”

“They know I talk nonsense,” the host continued, before Bradley jokingly scolded Anna by telling her to “get to the back of the classroom”.

Anne shook her head over her mistake, with Bradley telling her: “Pull yourself together,” before carrying on with the next question.

Kim tried her best to stay ahead of The Governess, but was ultimately outrun as Anne caught her just a stones throw away from securing her place in the Final Chase.

Communications executive Max also failed to make it back after taking Anne’s higher offer of £80,000 with retail consultant Tom the only contestant to join Sue for the final round.

The pair fought valiantly as they managed to build up 13 points between the cash prize and The Chaser, but their efforts proved fruitless.

With just over 30 seconds to spare, Anne outrun Sue and Tom, with Bradley informing them they would be returning home empty handed.

On yesterday’s celebrity edition of the popular quiz show, Bradley was joined by four famous faces including Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara, 35.

The host was shocked to learn about Janette’s dancing career, having got into ballroom dancing at the age of 18 after years on the West End.

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
