Susanna Reid is left red-faced in awkward Good Morning Britain blunder | The Sun

SUSANNA Reid was left red-faced on today's Good Morning Britain in an awkward on-air gaffe.

The broadcaster raised her eyebrows and pulled a face as her mobile phone began talking to her from under the desk.

She and co-star Richard Madeley were discussing today's headlines on rising inflation rates when their voices seemed to trigger Susanna's device.

Richard said: "Getting it on your phone."

Wide-eyed Susanna responded: "Excuse me, yes… I'll turn that off."

She then reached to switch it off as Richard kept talking to the camera.

Yesterday Richard squirmed when Susanna Reid showered praise on his replacement Martin Lewis.

The Money Saving Expert previously filled in for absent Richard, 65, alongside Susanna and is often a hit with viewers.

He appeared on the ITV breakfast programme from home yesterday to discuss Jeremy Hunt becoming Chancellor of the Exchequer, and Susanna gave him a glowing introduction.

She said: "Your trophy shelf is getting rather crowded and quite right too" as Richard, 65, stifled a laugh.

Susanna later made no secret of her admiration for financial journalist Martin, who won a National Television Award on Thursday.

Richard sat stony-faced when she added: "Well done. You’re the hero we all need right now and the trophy shelf behind you says it all."

Richard and Susanna have fronted GMB together from Mondays to Wednesdays since just before Christmas.

The veteran broadcaster took over the job nine months after the departure of Piers Morgan, who has launched a new show on TalkTV.

But Richard has been met with resistance from some viewers.

One said on his return from a summer break: "No contest is it. Ed Balls/Martin Lewis vs out of touch Madeley #GMB must hear the collective groan & sense all the TVs being switched over."

Another said: "Why on earth have you ruined the show again, it's been such a blissful few weeks without Madeley! Balls and Lewis are watchable."

He then recoiled as she touched his shoulder while welcoming him back to the programme.
