Strictly's Kevin Clifton gave Stacey Dooley 'his best choreography' and that's why he finally won the show, says Shirley Ballas

The 31-year-old TV host lifted the Glitterball trophy in emotional scenes at the weekend – with Kevin dropping to the floor in surprise.

Asked why Stacey won on BBC Breakfast this morning, Shirley, 58, paid tribute to the pair.

She explained: "Kevin only gave her choreography she could cope with therefore so she always looked attractive in what she was doing."

Referring to his five Strictly finals, she said: "I think it's five times the bridesmaid and he suddenly became this superstar.

"He became emotional so everybody got emotional. Stacey was so kind to him.

"He had given her the best choreography that I've possibly ever seen."

Shirley also paid tribute to Stacey for overcoming what she called "some funky footwork" at the start of the competition.

She said: "I was in awe to watch her. She really listened, she paid attention, she improved week in week out."

However, she didn't pick Stacey's win as her highlight of the series, instead giving it to fellow judge Bruno Tonioli, 63.

The excitable Italian has involved Shirley is plenty of his antics this series, with the judge regularly coming close to smacking her in the face with his wild gesticulations.

She said: "My highlight has to be Bruno with his wafting arms.

"He is the most entertaining person I've ever come across – and I'm learning to duck."
