Dan Walker and Nadiya Bychkova made it through to Musicals Week after racking up a personal best score of 29 on Saturday evening. During Sunday’s Strictly results show on BBC One, it was Tilly Ramsay and Sara Davies who faced the dreaded dance-off, with the latter saying her goodbyes. However, with Dan’s scores landing him near the foot of the leaderboard week after week, some viewers branded the decision for him to go through as a “fix”.
Each week, the dance-off is determined by a combination of the public vote as well as each stars’ position on the leaderboard.
Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Harwood, Anton du Beke and Motsi Mabuse then cast their votes as to which star they want to see stay in the contest.
AJ Odudu was the unfortunate star to finish bottom on Saturday but she and partner Kai Widdrington made it through having topped the leaderboard in previous weeks and winning over the public.
However, with Dan’s performances regularly landing him towards the lower end of the table, some Strictly viewers felt this week was time for him to face the dance-off over Tilly and Sara.
Venting their frustrations, @kingsland_d fumed: “#Strictly bbc fixing this. Sorry how did @AJOdudu and @Kai end up in the bottom of the board. She was brilliant. Yet others got 9s 10s for mistakes …. Dan walker beat Aj really …”
Sophie echoed: “#Strictly This is getting ridiculous now, why has Dan been saved again? He’s by far the weakest dancer left and should have gone weeks ago.”
“#Strictly Dan the BBC man #fix,” blasted @jgsmed, while Laura added: “What? Dan & Nadia through to next week! Poor. @bbcstrictly.”
While Jonathan weighed in: “#Strictly Dan Walker through???? WTF??? You’re kidding?
“I’ve never subscribed to the ‘it’s a fix’ mob but this time..this time you really are guilty of protecting your own. Shame on you – he should have gone weeks ago.”
However, some fans were quick to defend the BBC Breakfast star for keeping his spot in the competition.
Felicity said: “Just to say .. its not Dan’s fault Dan is through. Some of these comments are just nasty! #scd #strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
While @VimFuego1 commented: “Go Dan and Nadiya. If it was a dance competition Bill Bailey wouldn’t have won. Get over it [laugh emoji] #Strictly.” (sic)
