Strictly Come Dancing's Anton Du Beke thinks Seann Walsh and Katya Jones were "kindly marked" in latest show

Anton Du Beke has responded to claims Seann Walsh and Katya Jones were overmarked for their Charleston on last weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing.

With Anton appearing on This Morning to discuss his new novel, One Enchanted Evening, host Phillip Schofield couldn’t resist getting in a cheeky dig about the pair.

After Holly Willoughby asked Anton if his main characters found love on the dance floor, Schofe added: “Maybe in a bar when they’re drunk? Don’t think you’ll escape that one.”

Diverting the conversation to Seann and Katya’s now-infamous kiss, Phillip asked if Anton felt the pair were lucky to have stayed in the show after the public vote.

“What I do believe is that they were kindly marked on the night – they got higher marks than I thought the dance deserved,” he said.

Anton, who has been a professional dancer on the BBC show since its first series, added: “It did have a great performance value, Katya’s choreography is always brilliant. But I thought technically it wasn’t there.”

The dad-of-two continued: “That’s just my opinion but I think the audience at home have a bigger role to play this year than ever before.

“The two girls, Faye [Tozer] and Ashley [Roberts] are really quite accomplished. I think they’ll do well.”

This Saturday will see Seann and Katya take on the Quickstep to Jake Bugg’s ‘Lightning Bolt’ for week five.

This weekend will also see two new dances as both Paralympian athlete Lauren Steadman and Casualty actor Charles Venn will be taking on contemporary routines.

It’s all part of the show’s new Couple’s Choice category, which marks the first time a new dance category has been added to the show in almost 10 years.

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturdays and Sundays on BBC One.
