Strictly Come Dancing ratings revealed – and it’s very different to last year

Strictly Come Dancing suffered a sharp drop in viewers last night, drawing in a million less than this time last year.

The second week of the live shows kicked off yesterday as couples performed another routine in the hope that they would be saved from the first dreaded dance-off.

And while the show certainly didn’t lack drama – with judges rowing , fans slamming harsh criticism and even a couple of wardrobe malfunctions – it failed to draw in as many viewers as last year.

An average audience of 8.4million tuned in on Saturday, down 500,000 from week one and almost a million less than 2017’s week two.

Former Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts became the first celebrity to top the leaderboard this year after she and partner Pasha Kovalev wowed the judges once again.

The pair scored 32 after exciting the audience with their Cha Cha to disco classic Boogie Wonderland. This brought their total score to 61 for both dances.

One point behind were Steps star Faye Tozer and Giovanni Pernice, whose Viennese Waltz to It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World left the judges stunned.

Trailing at the bottom were Susannah Constantine and Anton du Beke, who scored just 24 after their two dances.

Close behind her was Katie Piper, who appeared close to tears after being awarded just 13 for her paso doble – giving her a total of 30.

Meanwhile Vick Hope vastly improved on her performance from last week after receiving just 18 for her jive.

Judge Craig said that she "owned" her ballroom dance and she was left stunned after receiving 27, giving her a total of 45.
