Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly reveals AJ Odudu is set to return to training

STRICTLY Come Dancing host Tess Daly has revealed that AJ Odudu is due to return to training this weekend after her horror injury.

The TV presenter was left on crutches earlier this week after sustaining ligament damage in her foot during a practice session with partner Kai Widdrington.

AJ, 33, broke down on Wednesday night as she revealed the injury, telling fans she "projectile vomited" across the dance floor from the severity of the pain.

She said on spin-off show It Takes Two: “We felt really positive after training on Monday. I’m unable to stand on my right foot and I can’t stand without crutches.”

The star said she was remaining hopeful she would still be able to perform on Saturday night's final show, where she was due to face John Whaite with Johannes Radebe and Rose Ayling-Ellis with Giovanni Pernice.

Today, Strictly host Tess Daly suggested that AJ may make her recovery just in time as she opened up about the star returning to training.

She told This Morning hosts Rochelle Humes and husband Vernon Kay they were "hoping and praying" AJ would make it onto the dance floor.

"Let's talk about AJ, because she's injured her ankle hasn't she?" Vernon, 47, asked his wife Tess, 52, on Thursday's episode of the daytime show.

"Yes, she has," Tess replied. "We are hoping and praying she will be recovered in order to dance on Saturday night. We are all behind her.

"I know she had treatment last night and we are hoping that she will go back into training on Saturday."

It comes shortly after AJ arrived on her crutches with pro partner Kai Widdrington at Strictly's Elstree headquarters to appear on It Takes Two.

Depsite sustaining the injury so close to Saturday's final, AJ admitted that she is "hopeful" that AJ will be fit for this weekend's show.

Speaking to Janette Manrara on Wednesday's Strictly: It Takes Two she said: "I'm upset because I've suffered an injury.

"I don't know when it happened but essentially I've got issues with my joints, I suffered some traumatic injury to my ligaments, there's a lot of inflammation.
