Steve Carell Is Returning To TV Alongside Some A-List Movie Stars

If you are still crying over Michael Scott’s departure from The Office, this delightful news ought to cheer you up.

Steve Carell is returning to TV. Yes, that’s what we said. The beloved actor will star in a new scripted series for Apple, alongside A-list heavy hitters Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. The upcoming dramedy is inspired by Brian Stelter’s popular book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV. The original Apple series will explore all the behind-the-scenes action of a daily morning show and its eccentric players.

Both Aniston and Witherspoon serve as executive producers on the series and the highly-anticipated project has already been given a two-season, straight-to-series order. The show will be penned by Kerry Ehrin (Bates Motel, Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) and Mimi Leder (The Leftovers, Shameless) is set to direct.

According to the show’s official logline, the untitled series “provides an inside look at the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning, exploring the unique challenges faced by the women (and men) who carry out this daily televised ritual.”

Carell will portray Mitch Kessler — a morning show anchor who is desperately trying to remain relevant in the rapidly changing media landscape. This will be Carell’s big return to TV since his iconic turn as Michael Scott in The Office.

Undoubtedly, this is Apple’s most high-profile original series in the pipeline. However, Apple has yet to confirm how viewers can watch the upcoming show. According to recent reports that were leaked, Apple’s original content will be available for free to any individual with an Apple device (which also contains the Apple TV app). No official confirmation has been announced by Apple, so stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed!
