Stephen Colbert Has Very Intimate Talk With Steve Carell About His 'Zaddy' Sex Appeal

“Why did you wait so long to get sexy?” Colbert asks Carell. “You are aware that now you are a hot salt-and-pepper zaddy, right?”

Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert got up close and personal on "The Late Show."

On a post-Super Bowl special edition of the late-night hit, the old friends invaded each other’s privacy by participating in the show’s recurring segment "Personal Space" and put their heads in a small, cardboard box.

"We’ve known each other for 30 years. Right? 1988… Honestly, Steve what was your first impression of me?" Colbert asked and Carell replied, "Well if I’m completely honest, you were very handsome. You were talented, intelligent and there was a certain joie de vivre you had that felt like it, it was just different than the other guys at Second City."

Carell asked Colbert what his first impression of him was as well. The late-night host said that he predicted Carell was going to be "so handsome in his late 50s."

"Why did you wait so long to get sexy?" he added. "You are aware that now you are a hot salt-and-pepper zaddy, right?" Carell, turning his beard to the camera, said "You’re embarrassing me!"

Colbert then asked a question that many of us wonder. Does the actor get sick of people quoting "The Office" to him?

"No, I love it," Carell said and Colbert joked, "That’s what she said."

Just when we thought the interview couldn’t get any more personal, Colbert offered Carell a "mint," which actually turned out to be a peppermint stick. The duo put the candy in their mouths "Lady and the Tramp" style. "I have a feeling that this is going to be a meme," Carell said. "Maybe we shouldn’t do that anymore."

Colbert also inquired about Carell’s recent career change, where he’s been taking on more dramatic roles. "You are one of the funniest people I know, you can make anything funny," Colbert asked. "Why did you become a dramatic actor?

"All I want to be is respected and to be pretentious," Carell joked. "You’re halfway there," Colbert quipped.
