Star Trek is making a "big announcement" this week, hints Harry Mudd actor Rainn Wilson

Star Trek: Discovery star Rainn Wilson has hinted that Star Trek is making a “big announcement” this week.

Wilson, who plays Harry Mudd, tweeted to say that the aforementioned announcement will be made on Thursday (September 20).

He also confirmed that fan-favourite character Harry Mudd will be returning to the CBS show’s second season.

He tweeted: “Guess who’s back!? (Ok, I’ll tell you.) #HarryMudd Big announcement on Thursday from @StarTrekCBS!”

Previously, Wilson compared his character to Donald Trump. He told Variety: “Harry Mudd is chaotic neutral. He’s trying to make his way in the world and he’ll do whatever it takes to get ahead. He’s a scrapper and a merchant and he just operates by a different moral code.

“He’s ultimately just a straight-up capitalist… I think Harry Mudd is a lot like Donald Trump: he follows the rules when it works for him, but he’ll bend the rules when it suits him.”

In more Trek news, William Shatner isn’t hopeful about a TV reboot following his character Captain Kirk.

It was recently announced that Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s captain Jean-Luc Picard for a new TV series – but it doesn’t look like Shatner will follow suit.

“Right now I’m happy doing what I’m doing,” he told the Toronto Star. “I’ve been offered many series over the years. But I haven’t done them because of the commitment of time. And at this stage of my life that’s more valuable than anything else.”
