FX’s Mayans MC has been commissioned for a second season.
The Sons of Anarchy spin-off is reported to have had the most-watched cable premiere of 2018 among adults under 50 – according to The Wrap – and it looks like co-creator Kurt Sutter’s new series will ride again.
“Mayans MC is performing fantastically, proving to be a breakout first season,” said Nick Grad, who’s president of original programming over at FX Networks/Productions.
“The series premiered as the highest rated cable series this year and continues to sustain a committed fan base, reflecting the talent and drive of creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James.
“We couldn’t be more excited to take this ride to a second season.”
Sutter himself has also shared a few words, adding: “The Mayans MC mythology sprung from the womb of Sons of Anarchy, but anyone who has taken the time to watch, knows it has become its own mythical creature”.
Co-writer James is delighted with the opportunity to work on the show, enjoying collaborating with Sutter, but also grateful for FX’s faith in him.
He added: “I’m excited for the fans’ response to the rest of this season, and I can’t wait to get back in the writers room and get to work on season two.”
