'Sister Wives' Fans Are Totally Over Kody Brown's Hands-off Approach to Parenting, Considering He Doesn't Have a Job

Kody Brown has been on the receiving end of criticism from Sister Wives fans. Still, the groundbreaking news came from Christine Brown when she announced her split with Kody for his immature behavior, poor parenting, and constant absenteeism. Here’s the bombshell: He even preferred staying back (reportedly with Robyn) instead of joining Christine’s family in New Jersey for Ysabel’s back surgery. Unsurprisingly, that news didn’t go well with Sister Wives fans, with many slamming Kody for his insensitivity toward Christine and Ysabel. At this point, fans are pretty much over Kody Brown not having a job or helping with the kids.

Christine Brown announced in November 2021 that she had left Kody

Christine and Kody married in 1994 when they were only 22 and 25, respectively — and she became his third wife. At the time, Kody was legally married to Meri and spiritually married to Janelle, meaning his marriage to Christine was also spiritual and not legally binding. Kody then legally divorced Meri in 2014 in order to legally marry Robyn, so that he could adopt Robyn’s three children from her previous marriage.

After 27 years of marriage, Christine finally decided to ditch Kody Brown. She made the announcement on Nov. 2, 2021, via Instagram, confessing how difficult it was for her emotionally. Still, Christine acknowledged that she and Kody would remain part of each other’s lives for the sake of their six children.

‘Sister Wives’ fans have expressed their frustration over Kody Brown’s poor parenting and lack of a job

In the wake of Christine’s split with Kody, Sister Wives fans didn’t hold back their disregard for Kody’s parenting. Many Sister Wives enthusiasts took to Reddit to express that he should do more to be a better husband to his (remaining) three wives and father to his 18 children.

One instance cited by a fan brought up the time when Kody and Janelle’s sons were having an altercation, and Kody did nothing to help the situation.

“We saw Kody sitting in a chair being a curmudgeon while Janelle’s boys were fighting with each other upstairs and Janelle had to BEG Kody to help her manage,” they recalled. “He prefers sitting around like a king and ordering people [rather] than being a proper parent.”

In a more general sense, fans wondered if Kody helps out with much at all when he goes over to his wives’ homes. “I can’t see Kody helping with remote learning, cooking or cleaning,” one person pointed out.

Kody’s lack of full-time employment also had Sister Wives fans harshly judging him.

“This man doesn’t even have the excuse that he is working hard to support the family,” another Redditor wrote. “… WTF does he do all day and night that he is unable to give these other women and kids more of his time? I have no respect for this man.”

The fact that Janelle’s kids preferred going over to Christine’s house, rather than having Kody come visit, in season 16 was another example of his status as a not so great father, according to viewers.

“Kody really exploded after that,” a Redditor pointed out. “I think Kody and Christine FIGHT but his ego was really bruised when the kids rejected his company.”

Fans weren’t happy about Kody’s insensitive remarks regarding Ysabel’s back surgery

Kody is known to express his thoughts inconsiderately, mostly toward his wives, but his recommendation for daughter Ysabel to have back surgery without either of her parents there with her truly made fans mad.

Ysabel, 18, ended up flying to New Jersey to have scoliosis surgery, and the entire family also accompanied her for emotional support. When Mykelti announced that her father wasn’t flying to be with the family due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it appeared to the fans that he used it as an excuse to spend time with his “favorite” wife, Robyn.

“I had the same surgery when I was 12 and it really floors me that Kody would not make it a priority to be there. It’s a big surgery to have and I remember my mom and dad were very stressed during the 12 hours I was in the OR,” One Reddit user said. “I can only imagine how much worse it would be to deal with that alone. But then again, considering who Kody is, Christine may be better off without him.”
