Simon Cowell admits he's missing ex-judge Louis Walsh on The X Factor – and jokes he can come back as a contestant in the 'over 80s' category

The Irish music manager quit the show ahead of this current series, and Simon admits things aren't the same without his friend by his side on the judges' desk.

However, Cowell, 59, says he'd have Walsh, 66, back – as a contestant in the 'over 80s' category.

He said: "Yes I am missing Louis. But you know, he still does Ireland's Got Talent and he can come back… as a contestant.

"We have the overs category so we would have to have the older and older category. For the over 80s,' he said with a grin."

The current line-up includes Simon, Robbie Williams and Ayda Field and Louis Tomlinson.

Meanwhile, Simon has snapped up a £15million home near the Pope.

The X Factor boss and girlfriend Lauren Silverman’s new seven-bed mansion is close to the official Papal residence in West London.

Previous pontiffs have been spotted there on a break from the Vatican.

Cowell was once named as more famous than God in a poll of under-tens.

And a source said: “He finds it hilarious that he might bump into Pope Francis.”

He was keen to move out of central London after two break-ins, including a stalker hiding in his walk-in wardrobe in 2012.

He and Lauren, 41, also wanted a place away from flight paths amid concerns about air pollution for son, Eric, four.

The source added: “Lauren has hired a team of interior designers to make it super-light, clean and minimalist.”
