Shadowhunters star says the #SaveShadowhunters fan campaign has 'made him feel that there's hope'

Shadowhunters star Dominic Sherwood, who plays Jace Herondale on the Freeform show, has admitted that the #SaveShadowhunters fan campaign has filled him with hope.

The series was cancelled just a few months ago, but thanks to the power of social media, Sherwood is now feeling optimistic about the future of the show.

In a recent interview with the AU Review, he revealed that he has been moved by the support.

“Having a strong support base in any avenue in the world is so fundamental,” he began. “I think that the wonderful feeling of having all these people who support it from all over the world, all different avenues, from different countries and different places is just wonderful.

“Because, it’s really a nice, heartwarming moment in the world, where really we do need unity; we do need a sense of togetherness because it seems more and more every day I watch the news and people are trying to tear apart from each other. Or the powers that be are trying to tear people apart.

He added: “I think it’s really important that we, as [a] group of people, stick together and look after each other and make sure that everyone is happy, healthy and successful. That’s what this has really epitomised for me. The fan reaction has made me feel that there’s hope out there.”

Since the news of the cancellation, Shadowhunters fans have tried to save the show with a number of self-funded campaigns, including flying a plane over Netflix’s LA headquarters, designing a month-long subway ad in Seoul, putting up a billboard in Times Square and buying bus ads in London.

A petition has also been made to save the show, with the fandom collecting more than 100,000 signatures, but despite their efforts, when production wrapped on the final episodes, producer Martin Moszkowicz shared a statement from production company Constantin Film that confirmed the show was over for good.

Shadowhunters returns to Freeform in 2019 with 12 episodes left to air, including a two-episode special finale. Netflix airs the show in the UK.
