Sacha Baron Cohen is being sued by controversial US politician following Who Is America? appearance

A United States politician is suing Sacha Baron Cohen over his recent appearance on Who Is America?.

Controversial Republican Roy Moore was featured in a recent episode of the satirical show, where he was interviewed by Cohen’s character Erran Morad (the same one as the ‘Kinder Guardians’ moment), who presented Moore with a fictional device that can supposedly detect paedophiles.

Moore was accused by nine women of sexual assault (which he denies), some of whom stated they were underage at the time.

The politician is suing Cohen, CBS and Showtime for defamation and fraud, and states that he met with ‘Morad’ under the assumption he was receiving an award.

The complaint (via The Hollywood Reporter) reads: “Defendant Cohen’s character falsely and fraudulently introduced a false and fraudulent ‘device’ supposedly invented by the Israeli Army to detect paedophiles.

“During the segment, Defendant Cohen’s ‘device’ – as part of the false and fraudulent routine – purports to detect Judge Moore as a sex offender, thus defaming him.”

The publication states that Moore will have to prove Cohen and the networks ‘acted with malice’.

A statement from Showtime reads: “The press has been sent copies of an alleged complaint, yet to our knowledge Showtime has not been served. With that said, we do not comment on pending litigation.”

Multiple episodes of Who Is America? are available to watch now on All4. A second season won’t be happening.
