Get ready for the confirmation of this celebrity couple, because it is quite a doozy. Actress Rosario Dawson has confirmed on video that she is dating Senator Cory Booker. There has been a lot of speculation around the two for months now, but this is the first time one of them has made it official. Here’s what you need to know about the new power couple.
Booker is a senator representing the state of New Jersey. He is a Democrat, and has been a very vocal critic of Trump. Like many others in his position, he graduated from law school (at Yale University), and was elected to City Council in Newark, NJ at just 29 years old. He went on to serve as the city’s mayor.
Booker has been on the New Jersey Senate since he won a special election in 2013. He was offered a position at the White House under President Obama, but turned it down. However, he was supportive of the president and of the first lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative.

Dawson is a well-known actress and activist. Like Booker, she hails from the Northeast, growing up in New York City. Dawson got her start in films such as Josie and the Pussy Cats and Men In Black II. She earned recognition for her role in the big-screen adaptation of the musical Rent.
Dawson has appeared in many films and TV shows based on comic books, including voicing Wonder Woman in the DC Animated Universe. She also portrayed Claire Temple in the Marvel-Netflix TV Universe, and was the only character to appear in all five series. She recently had a recurring role on Jane the Virgin, and will be in the upcoming sequel Zombieland: Double Tap.
Sadly, many frown upon politicians who remain unmarried. As rumors circulated that he was gearing up for a presidential run, many wondered if Booker would address his relationship status. And he didn’t disappoint.
In February, shortly after announcing his campaign for president in 2020, Booker went on a radio show. He was asked about being a bachelor, to which he replied, “I got a boo,” adding that he was with someone “very special.” He even talked a little about marriage, saying “there’s two more years [until the election], so give me some time.”
Around the time of his comments, speculation began to grow about the nature of Booker and Dawson’s relationship. The two were spotted attending a performance of the Broadway show Dear Evan Hansen. Those who saw them said that Dawson said, “I love you,” to Booker audibly. The pair were accompanied by Dawson’s teenage daughter, Lola, whom she adopted in 2014, as well as Booker’s niece.
However, their official status was not confirmed until March 14, 2019, when Dawson was recorded by TMZ while at Ronald Reagan airport. In the clip, she calls the politician “an amazing human being,” saying “I am just grateful to be with someone that I respect and love and admire so much.” Dawson appeared very happy, smiling and laughing the whole time.
Dawson didn’t seem to mind talking about her relationship too much, but what she’s most focused on is policy. In the TMZ clip, she mentions Voto Latino, a nonprofit organization she co-founded to help get Hispanic and Latino youths registered and involved in politics, which has its offices in D.C. So even if both she and Booker are very busy with their own projects, political or otherwise, they’ll at least continue to spend time in the same city leading up to next election.
