Roman Kemp will return to work on Thursday after I’m A Celeb success as Capital Radio expects huge ratings boost – The Sun

RADIO host Roman Kemp will return to work this Thursday after his whirlwind success on I'm A Celebrity – bringing with him a new army of fans.

The finalist, 26, was a firm favourite to win the series, but was last night narrowly beaten by Coronation Street's Andy Whyment and Queen of the Jungle, Jacqueline Jossa.

Roman's three-week stint on rice and beans and gruelling Bushtucker Trials should have earned him a well-deserved break at the plush Palazzo Versace Hotel in Australia like the rest of his campmates.

But the Capital Radio presenter isn't taking any time out to relax by the pool after finishing in third place.

Instead he's heading straight back to London to return as the Breakfast Show host where he'll reveal all about his jungle experience – and Roman is expected to bring tens of thousands of more listeners with him.

The 26-year-old saw the biggest jump in his social media following out of his campmates, rising from 213,000 before the show launch to a whopping 766,000.

Now insiders say his popularity could help bring in a new wave of fans to London's Breakfast Show after impressing viewers – and attracting celebrity crushes from the likes of Love Island's Amber Gill.

A source told The Sun Online: "Roman was a huge success on I'm A Celebrity with his hilarious impressions and fun attitude in camp.

"He's always been known as Martin Kemp's son, but the show gave him a chance to prove he's a star in his own right.

"Now the handsome host has been a hit with viewers, a whole host of new listeners could be tuning in to hear him on the radio for the first time."

Roman's co-host Sonny Jay surprised him by being out in Australia to meet him after last night's finale.

Sonny has been broadcasting from Down Under with the campmates' friends and family after flying out for the show.

He told listeners this morning: "We’re very, very proud of him. What an achievement it has been for him.

"It just seems like he’s had such a journey from the beginning to now."

Roman – who joined Capital five years ago – missed out on presenting the Jingle Bell Ball this weekend for the first time since joining the station in May 2017.

Presenters Aimee Vivian and Will Manning stepped into his shoes to host the O2 shows in front of 32,000 people over the weekend, with performances from Taylor Swift, Harry Styles and Sam Smith.

He'll return to Capital Radio this Thursday alongside Vick Hope and Sonny Jay from 6am.
