Richard Madeley leaves co-star gobsmacked by Judy Finnigan’s AI ‘affair’ jibe

Richard Madeley reacts to idea of Judy having affair with AI

Introducing the topic, Richard Madeley shook his head and laughed as he told Susanna Reid there’s a new story about artificial intelligence every day.

Richard said: “Now we’ve got people having affairs with virtual partners, with robots.”

The Good Morning Britain presenter, who has been married to Judy Finnigan for 35 years confessed he wouldn’t know how to react if this happened to him.

He added: “If I came downstairs at two in the morning to see where Judy had gotten to and she’s sitting at the kitchen table.

“Tap tap tapping, having an intimate relationship with a robotic bloke? I mean, I think she’d have gone mad.”

Good Morning Britain’s Susanna Reid agreed before highlighting there’s a significant difference between a virtual man and a real man.

She asked: “Is it really cheating if she’s exchanging sweet nothings and virtual pictures?”

Richard questioned: “Is there a difference between having a growing- because apparently these artificial relationships, they develop an intensity, just like a real relationship.

“Is it the same as, I don’t know, finding your partner watching pornography?”

It was clear Susanna was taken aback by his question as she joked it was “a little bit early” to be discussing that.

Putting the question to viewers, it appeared that 66 per cent of people (at the time of broadcast) agreed a relationship with an AI bot was cheating.

Susanna seemed perplexed at the response as she replied: “But, you’re having a virtual affair with no one? So is it an affair?”

Richard replied: “No but you’re committing emotion and I guess sexual drive to an apparent person.”

The 67-year-old told Susanna it’s similar to having a phone affair as you’re giving the virtual person something you’re not giving to your partner.

In the end, Susanna joked: “If you think it’s cheating and I’m amazed you’re being so open about Judy having this virtual relationship with this AI bot because I’m not sure she wants you revealing that.”

He joked: “I’m confiscating her tablet as soon as we get home.”

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays on ITV from 6am.
