Real Mr Bean lyrics reveals hidden joke in theme song

A fan of the original Mr Bean TV series has discovered a hidden joke that appears in every episode.

It’s not easy to spot unless you watch the show, which stars Rowan Atkinson as the silent character, with subtitles which the viewer did while rewatching the classic sitcom that was put on Netflix UK last year.

The comedy’s opening theme song is in Latin but when the subtitles appear in Engligh the true lyrics are revealed that the words actually mean something.

The lyrics simply read "Behold the man, who is a bean", as well as four other secret gags that appear in each episode which hear the choir singing "end of part one", "part two", and then each episode finishes with: "Farewell, man who is a bean."

Back in July 2018 fan James Green shared his findings: "1. The original Mr Bean TV series is now on @NetflixUK

"2. The subtitles on the Latin opening theme have revealed that the actual lyrics are simply: ‘Behold the man, who is a bean’.

"After 28 years my mind has been blown to pieces and I laughed so hard."

The tweet has been re-discovered and doing the rounds again as fans flock to share their surprise at the hidden gag.

The theme music was composed by Howard Goodall, who also wrote the themes for Red Dwarf, Blackadder, QI among others.

The last Mr Bean episode aired in December 1995 with a total of 15 episodes.
