Rachel Riley reveals her Grandmother died the same day she spelt out 'granny' on the Countdown board

The TV personality, 32, acknowledged the "amazing coincidence" on Twitter yesterday, before paying tribute to her "Nana Babs" after she passed away aged 91.

Rachel's fan club first shared the twist of fate as they sent Rachel their condolences.

Sending her a photo of the word "granny" up on the board, they wrote: "Sending love to you and your family Rachel. I think the letters board on Countdown today was too."

Retweeting the post to her page, Rachel responded: "Amazing coincidence. She’s gone to rest with my Grandad today."

The Oxford graduate went on to pay tribute to her grandma on Instagram, by sharing a sweet snap of the pair cuddling while Rachel was still a baby.

She wrote to her followers in an emotional post: "A few things I will remember about my grandma: A Salford dinner lady, she loved kids, especially my baby nephew Finlay.
"She’d never be seen without her signature red lipstick.

"And she *never* dyed her hair, even when it was 3 different colours all at once, it was definitely all natural."

Addressing her relationship with boyfriend and former Strictly partner Pasha Kovalev, she joked: "She called Pasha ‘Passion’ and always offered to be his dance partner (or pimp out her friend Margaret!)"

Before continuing: "On watching Hornblower and reading the papers, her epiphany that footballers would stray less if guys still wore lace-up breeches. Zips were obviously to blame…

"She’d always have someone pretend it was their birthday to get free cake on a buffet…where the cake was included anyway."

Rachel went on to thank the "hero" care-home staff for looking after her in her final days, praising them for "doing such a hard job, overworked, underpaid, under appreciated".

She signed off the post by writing: "Sad to be saying goodbye to her today, but also remembering the good, the funny and the very funny times.

"91 years young and my biggest fan. Night Babs. RIP Nana xxxxxx"

Fans rushed to the comments to send their condolences, with one writing: "Aw what lovely words to read about your grandma, my condolences for your loss"

As others added: "Great age Rachel… and more important great memories… she had a better life because of you no doubt… family is everything…"

And one wrote: "Condolences to you Rachel at this sad time may her light be carried forward by you xx"
