'Power': Will Jesse Williams Star in the Spinoff Series?

Even though we still have half of Power’s sixth and final season, all eyes are still looking toward the first spinoff of the show. Will Jesse Williams, who appeared earlier in this final season, star in the new series?

Here’s what we know about the Power spinoff

The first spinoff of Power was officially announced a few months back during the Television Critics Association press tour. However, it had been stated many times over the past few years that there would be not one, but multiple spinoffs of the show in development.

Power Book II: Ghost is the current working title of the first spinoff. It will star Mary J. Blige in one of the leading roles.

In a press release at the time, showrunner and executive producer Courtney A. Kemp and executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson said, “We have alluded previously to various spin-offs, prequels and other expansions of the Power Universe. Today we are pleased to announce that we are in pre-production on the first of what we know will be a collection of series inspired by the dynamic world of PowerPower Book II: Ghost will continue the journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters.”

Who does Jesse Williams play in ‘Power’

Williams portrays the ex of Lakeisha (La La Anthony), who is currently incarcerated. He appears in just one episode of the season.

On how his appearance and the role came about, Williams told Entertainment Weekly, “I’m a fan of the show. I’ve been in contact with Courtney Kemp, who is a good friend of mine. Courtney and I have been trying to figure out a way to work together for some time…we’re going to find a way to sneak me in. With the show wrapping up, she wanted to squeeze me in for kind of a surprise cameo and to get our working relationship started. It’s a monster show and I thought it would be fun to pop in for the final season. It’s an interesting character. The character had a presence in the show for a duration because he was in a relationship with La La Anthony’s character and is the father of Cash. He’s just been off-screen this whole time. It’s kind of cool to come in with a character that’s kind of been ever-present.”

Is it possible that Jesse Williams will star in the ‘Power’ spinoff?

In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly, Williams talked about the upcoming Power spinoff with Blige and if his character would join.

“Not that I know of and I’m not withholding, I just don’t know. We really are fans of each other, we’d love to figure out ways to work and she’s got really cool ideas for the spinoffs. I’m open to doing cool, creative, different work that I haven’t done before. It’s certainly a possibility as far as I can tell,” he said.

With five episodes left in the season, Power returns to Starz on Jan. 5.
