Piers Morgan warns Bafta TV Awards to let Good Morning Britain win – or else

PIERS Morgan has warned Bafta bosses that it will be the "biggest travesty in awards show history" if he goes home empty handed.

The TV host exclusively told The Sun Online of his hopes to lift an award, with Good Morning Britain nominated TWICE in the News Coverage category.

The popular morning show is nominated for both its On A Knife Edge report about the rise in knife crime, and for the exclusive interview with Thomas Markle that dominated headlines around the world.

Piers joked: "We're up for 2 awards in the same category. If we don't win tonight it'll be the biggest travesty in the history of awards shows."

Good Morning Britain faces competition from BBC's Newsnight programme, and a Channel 4 documentary on Cambridge Analytica.

54-year-old Piers felt confident that he will remain the star of the night, regardless of whether the team lift a gong.

He told The Sun Online: 'Ill  find a way of grabbing the headlines. They don't want me to lose tonight trust me.. it will be easier for them to give me a win."

With tonight's BAFTA ceremony gathering the UK's most famous TV stars under one roof, Piers explained his party plan and how it involves one of his ITV daytime colleagues.

He joked: "I'm looking for Holly Willoughby. She's my go to for around midnight, especially if we have won."

Piers made headlines over the weekend after teasing that he could be leaving the country.

The Good Morning Britain presenter was admitting he was going to have to flee after embarrassing himself on an upcoming episode of The Celebrity Chase.

He told host Bradley Walsh: "I've got to tell you, I actually think Celebrity Chase produced for me the single most embarrassing moment I've ever had on live television.

"The only good news is that it doesn't air for months so I've got enough time to plan my escape from the country because when people see just…"

But as he tried to finish his sentence there was an outpouring of cheers from the audience, delighted at the prospect of seeing the back of the controversial television personality.
