Piers Morgan slams ‘dangerous’ magazine cover that ‘celebrates morbid obesity’

Piers Morgan has slammed a "dangerous and misguided’ magazine cover that he believes is "celebrating morbid obesity".

The Good Morning Britain presenter got very worked up about Cosmopolitan magazine’s use of a plus-size cover star.

Cosmo has been heavily praised for featuring Tess Holiday, who weighs 300 pounds, in a green swimsuit on the cover of their October issue.

But Piers took a strong stance against the move and insisted the 33-year-old model is "dangerously overweight".

He clashed with Cosmo editor Farrah Storr, who defender her decision by saying the cover shows people there is a different way to look.

"We are a fat and ever fattening county and here you are as the editor of an ever popular magazine are saying it’s fine to be 300 pounds," said Piers.

"She is dangerously overweight. For a 5ft3 woman to be 300 pounds is dangerous."

Hitting back, Farrah said: "I’m not here to pas judgement. I see her run around with her children. She’s a model, she works 15 hours a day."

The Cosmo editor responded by telling Piers the country has a problem with mental health and this one cover of a larger lady in a culture of thin ones.

Not willing to accept the answer, Piers said: "You are celebrating morbid obesity. You’re doing it for clickbaits, to be on TV, to get Cosmo talked about."

The pair were also joined in the studio by Tina Malone, a former size 28, who also blasted the front cover.

She said: "If you can look at the picture her knees are buckling. She’s got two young children. She is representing an image that’s not right.

"I don’t want body shame anyone. You shouldn’t be locked in a room if you’re fat, you should be encouraged to come out and do something about it."

Susanna Reid backed Cosmopolitan and clashed with Piers about the issue throughout the morning.

Speaking about Tess Holiday, he said: "I’ve not got a problem with her leading the life she wants to lead. If she says she couldn’t be happier I’m pleased for her.

"I’m not shaming her, I’m shaming the editor of Cosmo for telling people this is something to celebrate."

Farrah added: "Am I saying that its ok to look like this? Yes I am. You’re a journalist, you know things aren’t black and white. The reason she is on my cover is to show there is a different way to look.

The debate continued onto Twitter , where many viewers went against Piers’ opinion.

One viewer said: "To be fair @Tess_Holliday takes a beautiful photo. Be proud of who you are and if you’ve got it, flaunt it."

Another added: "@piersmorgan absolutely disgusting the way you’re approaching this matter. Get over yourself, Cosmopolitan are embracing a plus size model and celebrating her."

A third said: "Love you @piersmorgan but you are totally wrong this morning. I’m a plus size girl and I for one am sick of seeing skinny women on the cover of magazines, who are also by the way in danger of being unhealthy. This cover shows women that CAN be big and beautiful"
