Original Chucky doll creator does NOT like the redesign for the Child's Play reboot

Chucky has had a long and storied life featuring multiple resurrections, but his father Don Mancini isn’t too keen on his latest incarnation for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot.

Mancini co-wrote the original Child’s Play in 1988, as well as designing the doll that would haunt the dreams of millions.

He wrote all the sequels to date (so that’s Child’s Play 2, Child’s Play 3, Bride of Chucky, Seed of Chucky, Curse of Chucky and Cult of Chucky) and also directed the last three in the series.

But he’s not involved at all in the upcoming reboot, which is being written by Tyler Burton Smith and directed by Lars Klevberg.

Mancini and producer David Kirschner apparently want to make their own Chucky films and a TV series, and turned down the chance of taking an executive producer credit on the new MGM remake.

“Our Chucky will be our Chucky and he will be presented when the movie comes out,” Klevberg told Entertainment Weekly, who offered a first glimpse at the redesigned character.

“Everyone is a huge fan of Don Mancini,” he added.

“If] he was making this movie with us it would be really amazing, but we understand he has his reasons.

“We are extremely grateful to him and will always be. He’s someone I look up to.”

But Mancini didn’t respond in kind, instead channelling Mariah Carey’s infamous response to being asked about Jennifer Lopez.

Ooof.

MGM’s Child’s Play reboot was fastracked once the producers of the critical and commercially successful It remake came on board, but it’s actually been on the slate since way back in March 2011.
