Ofcom complaints about Cheryl’s raunchy X Factor performance treble after she defends sexy routine

The singer, who gyrated with her dancers, writhed around on the floor and seductively licked her hand in a bizarre pre-watershed display, has now attracted 45 official Ofcom complaints.

At the start of the week, the number objecting to her performance of new song Love Made Me Do It was 15 – meaning they have tripled.

A spokesman for the watchdog explained: "We are assessing these complaints against our broadcasting rules before deciding whether or not to investigate."

Ofcom insists there are "strict rules about what can be shown on TV before the 9pm watershed", including a ban on "material unsuitable for children".

Singing about being a "bad girl", the singer stomped around the stage in a tasselled black bodysuit and thigh-high boots.

However, the 35-year-old today hit back at critics of the performance, which fans have branded a "disaster".

She claimed that she watched her performance back and "LOVED IT", adding that she didn't mind that people have complained.

"Having spent 16 years in the public eye I have always been accepting of people's opinions.

"Me personally, my music and performances are never going to be for everyone. And that's OK."

They certainly weren't for everyone, with many fans begging her not to take to the stage again.

One posted: "That was awful. Please dont perform again. Try something different its not for you."

Another joked: "I don't care what made her do that but it wasn't love! #terrible."

A third blasted: "Omg Cheryl’s performance on the X factor is just awful. She should stick to selling shampoo."

Meanwhile, another said she wouldn't even cut it on the singing show these days. "Cheryl wouldn’t even get to the lives if she was on X factor," said one viewer.

Ahead of her performance, it was claimed producers were worried Cheryl's racy performance could spark complaints from viewers.

A source told The Sun: "Cheryl wants this performance to be remembered and it will be.

"She has been in rehearsals for the last few days and the routine will see her writhing around on the ground with 12 hot men dancing around her."

They added: "No one has told Cheryl what to do, but they’ve been keeping a close eye on the creative team so the routine is suitable for a family audience."
