Noel Edmonds was the undisputed King of Saturday night telly with his mega ratings hit Noel’s House Party in the nineties.
And while, as Mirror Online exclusively revealed , he’ll soon be rubbing shoulders with Dec Donnelly in the I’m A Celebrity jungle, Noel has previously claimed that the star and pal Ant McPartlin used his show as a template for ITV’s Saturday Night Takeaway.
Speaking in 2005, Noel claimed that Ant and Dec’s executive producer had confessed to scouring through old tapes of Noel’s House Party for inspiration.
"They’ve been very honest about the derivation of their show," Noel told the Independent .
"Their executive producer told me that the first thing they did when they were setting up the show was to get out the tapes of Noel’s House Party.
“We had a laugh about it. I also like the fact that Ant and Dec so clearly love their job and do it so professionally.”
Again in 2015, Noel repeated his claim while heaping praise on Ant and Dec as the nation’s leading entertainers.
“I’m a big fan of Ant and Dec, I think they’re excellent presenters,” he explained.
“They’ve been honest, they’ve plundered the House Party archive and created Takeaway.
"I don’t have a problem with that, I take it as a compliment.
“When I look at some of things I used to do with the BBC and currently at C4, I’m pretty comfortable with the space that I’ve occupied.
“I have been very fortunate and worked with good people."
Noel, 69, even vented his frustrations at the presenting duo during a tongue-in-cheek skit on Saturday Night Takeaway earlier this year.
In the segment, Noel shouts at his TV presenter rivals.
“Not you two!” he yells. “I’ve been in this business 50 years.
“On Saturday nights I used to get 17 million viewers and I’ve never been on the Honours List.
“And then one day I come home and I turn the telly on and I see you two muppets getting OBEs!”
