New show sees former England football legends tackle their weight to fit back into their 90s kits

11 England football legends, who have put on a bit of weight since retiring, will attempt to get back into shape and back on the pitch in a new ITV series called Match Fit.

The team of England legends, led by manager Harry Redknapp, will consist of players from the 80s and 90s, including; John Barnes, David Seaman, Robbie Fowler, Mark Wright, Matthew Le Tissier, Chris Waddle, Rob Lee, Ray Parlour, Lee Sharpe, Mark Chamberlain, Paul Merson, and Razor Ruddock.

The show will see the former players pulled out of their comfort zones and lumbered with a training regime not too dissimilar from that of a modern-day footballer. (Can’t wait to see Merson with one of those elastic band things around his legs.)

With the aim being to help the legends fit back into their 90s football tops and take on a team of international rivals, the show will highlight the importance of maintaining a healthy, balanced diet and fitness routine as you approach middle age.

Kate Teckman, ITV’s commissioning editor of Factual Entertainment said: “Classic ITV, entertaining, with scale and purpose, and moreover we are finally going to answer the age old question ‘Who ate all the pies?'”

Leon Wilson, Managing Director of Talkback, added: “We’re thrilled to be working with ITV on this unique and epic new series. Bringing together some of England’s greatest footballers of all time, we’re looking forward to seeing if they can ditch their unhealthy habits, to get match fit, back in their kits and on the pitch, doing what they do best.”
