Neighbours reveals which iconic song will be played at David and Aaron's wedding today

Today’s episode (September 3) of Aussie soap Neighbours will celebrate the country’s first on-screen gay wedding since it voted to legalise same-sex marriages – and we now know which song will soundtrack the occasion.

It’s been confirmed that Matt Wilson and Takaya Honda’s characters (Aaron Brennan and David Tanaka) will mark their special day with the song ‘Especially For You’ by Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue as they perform their vows.

This is an extremely meta choice from Neighbours‘ producers as, of course, Jason and Kylie played Scott and Charlene on the show many years ago.

Digital Spy recently caught up with Matt Wilson, where he shared his thoughts on the Australian show’s first legal gay wedding.

“It still doesn’t feel real,” he noted. “A lot of the time you get so consumed with the work in front of you, you don’t realise the bigger picture or meaning of what we’re actually doing. This is the biggest moment in my career so far, that’s for sure.”

The 30-year-old Sydney native also revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming wedding.

“Unlike previous weddings in global soap opera history, there aren’t any ‘huge’ surprises that may spoil the day. It’s a beautiful, well rounded episode that will have you shedding a tear of joy.”

Neighbours airs David and Aaron’s wedding today at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
