Neighbours pays tribute to EastEnders for their 35th anniversary

What’s more, a sign in the background advertises an upcoming ‘Happy Half Hour’ — which is between 7:30pm and 8pm — which is, of course a nod to the time which EastEnders airs on Tuesday and Thursday nights — the only evenings the soap aired on upon its initial broadcast, before moving to 3 episodes a week in 1993, and finally four episodes a week in 2001.

This touching homage can be seen in today’s instalment of the Channel 5 soap, which is no doubt a coincidence given that today is EastEnders’ actual anniversary.

This isn’t the first time that Neighbours has paid tribute to EastEnders, as it did something similar 5 years ago in order to celebrate the BBC soap’s most iconic moments by having the cast re-create some of them.

Neighbours continues Wednesday 19 February at 1:45pm on Channel 5 and EastEnders continues Thursday 20 February at 7:30pm on BBC One.
