Neighbours' Alan Dale says he’s returning to the soap as Jim Robinson … despite character dying of a heart attack in 1993

The actor, 71, was killed off back in 1993, but revealed he is "shooting" for the soap once again on his Twitter page this week.

The Ugly Betty star shared a snap of a welcome message which read: "G'day Mr Dale", as he returned to the show's set after twenty-five years.

Teasing at an upcoming return, he added the caption: "The greeting I received at the studio in Atlanta, where I am shooting some stuff for Neighbours. Look out for it guys!!! #Neighbours #Dynasty"

The post sent his 7,000 followers into a frenzy over how Jim will return, with one writing: "OMG, is Jim coming back from the dead?"

While others added: "I always said Jim faked his death and would return one day" and "Hope #neighbours are doing a ghost of Christmas past special….. Oh the possibilities. …"

Alan's character Jim died of a heart attack back in 1993, after months of feuding with his family over his new girlfriend.

He had embarked on a relationship with Annalise's mother Fiona, but clashed with his loved ones when they warned him she was after his money.

Alan, who starred on the soap for eight years, was killed off after a fight with producers over his salary.

Recalling his exit, he told TV Week in 2016: "I made some sort of crack about the fact that when we started doing Neighbours, we got paid the same money as when I was doing The Young Doctors."

When asked if he felt it had been the right decision, he added: "I'm happy to be out of it – look at my career."

Alan had never been afraid to slam the show for their feud, telling Metro in 2008: "The producers were greedy and nasty.

However, the actor appeared to cast the drama aside in April, when he returned to set for a reunion with on-screen son Stefan Dennis.

Both Alan and Stefan, who played his oldest son Paul, shared a beaming selfie from outside the soap's famous haunt, The Waterhole.

Clearly holding no bad blood with the cast, he wrote: "Father and son back together at the pub. Same same but slightly older… the pub’s held up pretty well don’t you think? #Neighbours"
