Naga Munchetty replaced on BBC Breakfast days after she admits ‘constant pain’

Louise Minchin returns to BBC Breakfast

Naga Munchetty was missing from BBC Breakfast’s sofa on Thursday morning, with co-star Charlie Stayt being joined by Tina Daheley.

Tina is most known for reading the news on The Radio 2 Breakfast Show with Zoe Ball, often contributing to discussions during the show.

Naga’s absence from the show comes after she recently revealed the debilitating health condition she had been dealing with for the majority of her life.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, she revealed: “Right now as I sit here talking to you, I am in pain. Constant, nagging pain.

“In my uterus, around my pelvis – sometimes it runs down my thighs. And I’ll have some level of pain for the entire show and for the rest of the day until I go to sleep.

“Every so often the pain changes; it becomes a stabbing pain. A pain that takes my breath away and I can do nothing but sit with it for a minute or curl up to cope.

“I’m in pain because I have something called Adenomyosis. You probably haven’t heard of it, I hadn’t either until I was told eight months ago that I have it.”

Naga went on to detail how she would have to sleep on top of a towel, and set alarms every three hours to ensure she was changing her tampon regularly.

She also revealed that when she would have her periods they would make her pass out, sweat, cry, moan, groan and curled up in a ball.

“A lifetime of being told, ‘you’re just unlucky, it’s just one of those things’. A lifetime of changing my behaviour, adapting my plans, changing my life to cope with the pain.

“And I am just one of many, many more women,” she concluded.

The last time Tina appeared on the breakfast show was in August 2022 alongside permanent fixture Jon Kay.

During her time with Jon, the pair were joined by Countdown’s Colin Murray and were tasked to solve a conundrum.

Tasked with an anagram of ‘breakfast’ this time, Colin had the answer within seconds, as Jon asked: “What?! We should have got that,” as Tina begged: “Can we do another?”

An incredulous Jon mimicked her: “Can we do another? There’s no second chances on Countdown!”

Colin invited the pair to the Countdown studio, but Tina quipped: “I’m actually struggling to see. I can’t really see…” but Jon quickly interrupted her: “Could you see your cheat sheet?”

Furious for outing her secrets, Tina quipped: “It’s not a cheat sheet! It didn’t give me much help, did it?”

BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One.
