Symone Davies, 35, has proved you don’t need to spend a load of money to give your interiors a brand new look.
The mum-of-two managed to transform her ‘boring’ kitchen with a pretty pink and rose gold makeover – for just £250.
Symone, from Cowbridge, south Wales, says she kept costs down by searching for bargains online.
The DIY task was the perfect project to pass the hours in lockdown.
She began by covering the walls with pink stick-on tiles then painted the rest of the walls in that same bright colour.
She then added in a table she got for £100 from Gumtree and bought some new pink accessories.
The mum encourages people to make use of their time in the second national lockdown to take on their own DIY project.
Symone, who lives at the home with her children Ethan, 16, and Ffion, 11, said: ‘This is the perfect opportunity to make the most of free time and do those jobs you have been putting off.’
The mum has always enjoyed DIY but the restrictions inspired her to make more changes to her abode.
‘I’ve lived by myself since I was 16 so I’ve always been into DIY,’ she said.
‘I’ve lived here six years and I was never keen on the kitchen but I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to go in; I had completely fallen out of love with my home.
‘With lockdown, everyone seemed to be doing up their houses and I had been putting it off so I decided this was the perfect time to start.
‘I’ve been declared unfit to work due to my health so I had to do the entire kitchen on a budget – the table should have been £1,000 but I got it for £100 from Gumtree; the dining chairs were on offer and the paint was a tester pot from B&Q.
‘It was a case of spotting the bargains and saving up for them so I had to do things bit by bit.’
After spending just £250 on the redesign, Symone loves the end result.
‘Now, the kitchen is entirely suited to my personality with the bright colours and rose gold decor – I absolutely love it and so do my children,’ she said.
