The latest Brazilian series to arrive on Netflix is Most Beautiful Thing, or Coisa Mais Linda in Portuguese. The period drama dropped on the site globally this morning (Friday, March 22). There are seven episodes for fans to enjoy over the weekend. Read on to find out more.
Most Beautiful Thing is set in Brazil in the late 1950s.
The action takes place in two of the country’s biggest cities, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
Maria Casadevall leads the cast as a young rich Paulistana – a Paulistana is a person from São Paulo.
Upon moving to Rio de Janeiro where her husband leaves her, she finds a new group of Cariocas (people from Rio).
The series is a romantic period drama that brings a golden era in the country’s history to the forefront.
It also charts the rise of Bossa Nova, a style of Brazilian music popularised in the 50s and 60s.

Most Beautiful Thing was filmed in Brazil mostly in Rio de Janeiro.
“We’re eager to continue investing in the incredible storytelling Brazil has to offer, and our partners at Prodigo Films have captured just that with Coisa Mais Linda,” Erik Barmack, Netflix VP of International Original Content said when the series was announced.
“Apart from being set to a vibrant time in Brazilian culture, the series tells a broader story about self-discovery, the pursuit of dreams and the emancipation of women that will be incredibly relevant to our audiences both in Brazil and globally.”
The series was created by Heather Roth and Giuliano Cedroni, and written by Pati Corso and Leo Moreira.
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE IN MOST BEAUTIFUL THING?
The synopsis for Most Beautiful Thing reads: “Set in the late 1950s, Coisa Mais Linda follows Maria Luiza ‘Malu’ (Maria Casadevall), a young rich Paulistana, who moves to Rio de Janeiro to open a restaurant with her husband.
“Upon arrival, she discovers he abandoned her and ran off with all the money.
“Desperate at first, Malu will recover herself and pursuit a new a dream in the midst of the city’s vibration to the sound of the emerging Bossa Nova.
“In this endeavour, she will count on three incredible women: Lígia (Fernanda Vasconcellos), her childhood friend who has a beautiful voice; Adélia (Patrícia Dejesus), a black Carioca worker, with sheer determination and unshakeable strength, and Thereza (Mel Lisboa), a modern and independent writer.”
The series looks like it will appeal to fans of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel.
