Moment Ellie Butler’s ex-EastEnders mum tried to cover up her brutal murder

This is the moment Jennie Gray used her skills as an actress to try and cover up the brutal murder of her daughter Ellie Butler.

In 2013 Butler, 38, beat Ellie to death at home in Sutton, south London.

But in the weeks that followed, the ex-EastEnders star took pleasure in deceiving the police with crocodile tears.

Now a body language expert has revealed the subtle clues that give away Jennie’s deception as part of a new documentary Faking It: Tears Of A Crime .

Jennie – who also appeared on The Bill during her time as a TV actress – put on a performance to fake sadness and try to cover up for her violent and abusive partner, Ben Butler.

"Gray sniffing and sobbing and whining and trying to make a performance believable that she’s feeling sad but she isn’t, she even has a tissue in her hands which she’s never used, so the prop isn’t needed because there are no tears," Body Language expert Cliff Lansley reveals.

Butler killed six-year-old Ellie in a fit of explosive rage and violence but to this day shestill protests her and Butler’s innocence.

For expert Lansley, there is no doubt that Butler killed Ellie.

"I’m pretty convinced the damaged was created by contact with a hard surface of the floor [sic].

"His body has told us that."

Despite the pair’s protestations, Butler was convicted of murder and will serve a minimum 23 years in jail while Gray, 38, got 42 months.

* ‘Faking It: Tears of a Crime’ airs Friday at 10pm on Investigation Discovery.
