Michael B Jordan will star as Tom Clancy's CIA fixer John Clark in new film series

Black Panther star Michael B Jordan is going to lead an exciting new film series: John Clark.

Created by iconic author Tom Clancy, Clark – aka John Terrence Kelly – is an ex-Navy Seal who joins the CIA, working alongside the famed character Jack Ryan. He’s been described as “Ryan’s dark side”, which may offer an insight into how he likes to go about his business.

Clark first appeared in the 1988 Clancy novel The Cardinal of the Kremlin, but only featured as a secondary focus until 1993’s Without Remorse, which gave him a fully fleshed-out backstory.

According to Variety, Paramount Pictures is developing two movies for the character, based on the novels Without Remorse and Rainbow Six. Akiva Goldsman is attached as the project’s main producer, with Michael himself, Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec also producing.

Although Amazon has been hard at work shaping its own Jack Ryan TV series – which debuted last month starring John Krasinski – it’s recently been confirmed that due to rights issues, Clark won’t be making an appearance.

Seasoned actors such as Willem Dafoe and Liev Schreiber have both portrayed Clark in past on-screen iterations – Dafoe in Clear and Present Danger and Schreiber in The Sum of All Fears.

It’ll be interesting to see what Michael can bring to Clark’s first leading appearance.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is available on Amazon Prime Video.
