Michael and Jowita win The Greatest Dancer in surprise result

Michael and Jowita have won BBC show The Greatest Dancer in a shock result.

They will pocket £50,000 and have the chance to perform on Strictly Come Dancing .

They were mentored by Strictly professional Oti Mabuse, who performed a routine alongside them, and this is her second year in a row of mentoring the winning act.

Speaking to presenter Jordan Banjo, Jowita gushed: "I don't know what to say, I want to thank all you guys who voted and thank you Oti for giving us this opportunity. Thank you Michael for lifting me every day twelve hours!"

Michael, 27, and Jowita, 25, are a ballroom and Latin duo who live in London.

The other two finalists were soloist Harrison and young duo Lily & Joseph, while Dancepoint came in fourth place after being mentored by Todrick Hall.

Oti said the cash prize "could not go to two better people" and that the money would go towards things the pair had to give up for the show.

Some viewers weren't impressed by the result, with one tweeting: "That is a travesty. It should have been Lily and Joseph. Might sound mean but it’s true", referring to Dancepoint coming fourth.

Some viewers took to Twitter to share their disappointment, with one writing "I’m sorry but they didn’t deserve to win #Harrison should have won #TheGreatestDancer ".

"Lily and Joseph were robbed. I’m fuming" declared another.

But others were delighted with the result, with one penning: "So so happy Michael and Jowita won. They’re incredible!! Well done on another win Oti".

"Yes! Huge congratulations! Outstanding dancers. As good as the professionals on Strictly. We'll deserved. And we'll done to Oti, my fav dancer, you did them proud. x" gushed another.

The show was presented by Jordan Banjo and Alesha Dixon , with judges Oti Mabuse, Matthew Morrison, Cheryl and Todrick Hall.

Solo dancer Harrison, ballroom dancers Michael & Jowita, child performers Lily & Joseph, and dance troupe Dancepoint were made finalists last week after Cheryl's act Brothers of Dance and Matthew Morrison's solo dancer Hannah were sent home.

Cheryl's dancing was met with tough criticism from some viewers, who didn't rate her performance alongside Lily & Joseph.

One tweeted: " #TheGreatestDancer I fear that Cheryl has ruined it for the two kids".

"It's a shame that Cheryl and Matthew brought their acts down," added another.

A third ranted: "Crikey! I don’t think Cheryl is even a dancer, let alone ‘the greatest’ #TheGreatestDancer – only caught a few minutes and it was more than enough!"
